We require a Volunteer Co-ordinator to join our Sheffield team.
Salary: £11,502 per year
Hours: 14 hours per week
Location: Sheffield – with work across the city’s communities
Contract: Permanent
Help us grow a volunteer team that supports Sheffield’s carers
Crossroads Care Charity delivers the Sheffield Carers Service on behalf of Sheffield City Council. Our volunteers, including befrienders, add real value to the support we give unpaid carers across the city.
We’re looking for a Volunteer Co-ordinator to recruit, train and support our volunteers, and to grow our volunteering so we can offer carers even more.
What you’ll do
Recruit and induct volunteers across a range of services, and match each volunteer to a role that suits them
Promote and advertise volunteering opportunities, including working with local universities to recruit placement students
Work with the service lead and senior management team to recruit volunteers for new services
Train volunteers so they feel confident and ready to support carers
Provide ongoing support and regular supervision to volunteers, and keep in good contact with them
Organise befriender visits, making sure arrangements are clear and risk assessments are in place
Carry out DBS checks and keep IT and HR records up to date, using AI tools where appropriate
Listen to carers’ views and adapt the volunteering programme to meet their needs
Work with statutory and voluntary partners, and produce statistics and reports
Evaluate how well the service is working and recommend improvements
What we’re looking for
Experience of managing people
An understanding of what motivates volunteers and befrienders, and the support they need
Good, non-judgemental communication skills, both written and spoken
Confidence using computers (we’ll train you on our in-house system)
Strong organisation skills, with the ability to prioritise and handle several things at once
The ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team
An understanding of a person-centred approach
Sensitivity, diplomacy, patience and tact, with a caring, hands-on approach
A genuine passion for helping people, flexibility, self-motivation and a sense of humour
A commitment to equal opportunities and to confidentiality
It would be great if you also have a Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (or equivalent), knowledge of voluntary and statutory organisations, knowledge of carers and the issues they face, or a full driving licence and use of a car.
What we offer
28 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays (pro rata)
Workplace pension
Westfield Health cash plan (level one) after probation, and a Blue Light Card
Paid mandatory training and ongoing development
Part-time hours in a friendly, values-led team
Our values are Caring, Teamwork, Resourceful, Respect and Collaborative. If they matter to you too, we’d love to hear from you.
This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check.
